Hyaluronic Acid is a mucopolysaccharide belonging to the Glycosaminoglycan family, which occurs naturally in all tissues of the body. It is particularly concentrated in the skin (about 50% of all hyaluronic acid is found in the skin) and in the synovial fluid. It is composed of alternating units of Glucuronic Acid and N-Acetyl-Glucosamine. The main function of Hyaluronic Acid is to attract and retain water in the extracellular matrix of tissues, in the various layers of the skin and in the synovial fluid. For skin cells, Hyaluronic Acid's extraordinary ability to attract and retain water is vital for correct cellular communication, hydration, nutrient transport and elimination of toxins.

Collagen is responsible for the strength and structure of the skin and its fibers act as pillars that support the weight and tension of the skin. Although collagen is a known key factor in maintaining young and healthy skin, there is another protein in our skin that is equally important for the health and appearance of the skin, elastin, which is responsible for the elasticity and flexibility of the skin.
